Formaldehyde is Now Classified as a Carcinogen

The National Toxicology program released the 12th Report on Carcinogens on Friday. In the report, formaldehyde was among the substances added to the list of cancer causing agents though the chemical industry had long fought the classification. Formaldehyde is a chemical used in embalming fluid and consumer products.

Though it has now been established how dangerous formaldehyde is, I bet few people know how many products in their home contain this ingredient. Formaldehyde is commonly found in: mouthwash, hairspray, cosmetics, cleaning products, perfumes, waxes, hair setting lotions, shampoo, air fresheners, fungicides, fingernail polish, floor polishes, dry cleaning solvents, toothpaste, laundry spray starch, antiperspirants, and fabric softener sheets.
